LONE STAR LEGAL AID (LSLA)
Every 2nd Wednesday of the Month
Wednesday, July 14th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
LSLA is a large, regional law firm who assists low income persons and families with civil legal problems. They only work with civil cases, and do not handle criminal cases. Attorneys and a paralegal from LSLA will be available at the FBCIL to see consumers on a first-come-first-serve basis. All information shared with LSLA staff is strictly confidential.
20TH ANNIVERSARY ADA CELEBRATION COMMITTEE MEETING
Thursday, July 1st, July 8th and July 22nd from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
July 26, 2010 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Signing of the Americans with Disability Act. It’s not too late to still volunteer to join the committee in the final planning for the 20th Anniversary celebration in July at FBCIL. During the week of July 26th through July 30th, there will be many different activities to celebrate 20 years of the ADA. Your skills are needed and appreciated. PUBLIC SERVANT APPRECIATION RECEPTION
Monday, July 26th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
We will be honoring Public Servants who have made a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities and have given their support to the Advocacy Movement that led to the signing of the ADA. This will be an opportunity to interact with others to include public servants and learn more about the ADA? Refreshments served.

FORT BEND TRANSIT/NEW FREEDOM APPRECIATION RECEPTION
Tuesday, July 27th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Transportation is often a tremendous barrier for persons with disabilities. Fort Bend Transit / New Freedom has made headway in assisting in our quest to remove this barrier in the FBCIL catchment area. We will be honoring Fort Bend Transit / New Freedom staff that have made a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities and have given their support to the Advocacy Movement that leads to individual independency. This will be an opportunity to hear the Fort Bend Transit / New Freedom “story” and learn more about the ADA? Refreshments served.

We will be hearing individual success stories from persons with disabilities and will have the opportunity to interact with others in an informal “Open House” setting as we learn how the ADA has made a difference for persons with disabilities. Refreshments served.

MOVIE AND GAME DAY

We will be viewing movies relevant to the Advocacy Movement that led to the signing of the ADA. This will be an opportunity to interact with others and learn more about the ADA? Come see old friends or meet new ones? Join us for fun on the last Friday afternoon of the month. Refreshments will be served.

T.O.P.S. WEEKLY CHAPTER MEETING
Every Tuesday in July from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon
We have begun a T.O.P.S. Chapter at FBCIL. Cost is $27.50 per year with no weekly/monthly fees. Join us in our quest to lose weight sensibly. Take Off Pounds Sensibly was founded in 1948 with the philosophy that the best way to lose weight, achieve wellness and maintain a healthy lifestyle is by incorporating a balanced diet, regular exercise and continued support and encouragement.
CONSUMER INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES
Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Appointments are requested but not necessary
The Fort Bend Center for Independent Living services include but are not limited to: peer support, individual and systems advocacy, information and referral to available resources, independent living skills training to make it easier for people with disabilities to participate in the community and much more!
